Work tasks

Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is recruiting a research scientist to join our genomics and breeding research group which is in a leading position in developing computational solutions for large genetic evaluations. The person will work with genomic evaluation projects on plant, animal and forest genetics. The main focus is development of genomic breeding value prediction models for new plant species with complex genetic structure. In addition, the task includes consideration of optimal use of developed genomic models in breeding programs. The person is expected to work as a team member together with other researchers in computational genetics and to cooperate close with plant and animal breeding industry nationally and internationally.


The successful applicant must have a doctoral degree in plant or animal breeding, applied mathematics, statistics or a similar field. Proven experience and expertise in applying genetic methods to large genomic data are required. Good skills in quantitative genetics, mathematical modelling and programming are needed. The selected person is required to have a proven track record of scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Successful acquisition of competitive research funding is considered as an advantage. The successful applicant should possess good co-operational and communication skills. Excellent skills in oral and written English are required.

 The position is at complexity level 9 in Lukes salary system. Therefore, the position-specific salary component is EUR 3,579.47 per month. In addition to the position-specific salary component, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. It can be at most 50% of the position-specific salary component. The applicant may also present a separate salary request.
