Sunway University seeks to appoint a new Dean for the School of Arts. The next Dean will join at an exciting time, as the school has been called upon to contribute to the development of Sunway City as a cultural hub for the south side of the Kuala Lumpur metropolis. A new arts building is currently under construction, to include professional-quality performance and exhibition spaces as well as state-of-the-art teaching facilities across the arts.

With a growing enrolment of approximately 1,000 students, the School of Arts today includes 13 programmes across three departments: Art, Design, & Media; Communication; and Film & Performing Arts. Two research centres complete the School: the Centre for Research-Creation in Digital Media and the Centre for South Asian and Indian Ocean Studies. More information can be found at .

The Dean will have a strong profile of academic leadership and research in an area aligned with the School’s current provision. The appointee will oversee the effective management of the School, promoting and guiding its ongoing development, and ensuring productive and fruitful interactions internally as well as with the wider University and external organisations.

Overall Purpose of Role

The Dean is the senior academic leader of the School with responsibility for its effective governance, leadership and management. The Dean shall take such decisions and actions as necessary to ensure smooth and efficient running of the school, in line with the University’s vision, mission and strategic direction.

Reporting to the President, the Dean shall work closely with the senior management team of the University to help develop and ensure effective implementation of policies to progress the long-term aims and objectives of the University. The Dean will also be expected to contribute to the strategic and operational planning of the University.

The Dean shall act as the senior representative of the School, internally and externally, with responsibility of ensuring the establishment, development and maintenance of key stakeholder relationships to ensure effective progress and development of the School.
