Co-ordinated Energy Storage for Low Carbon Power Networks

And Any Other Projects Undertaken by the Department of Industrial Electrical Power Conversion, Faculty of Engineering.

  • Applications are invited for the post of Research Support Officer to work on a full-time basis on “Co-ordinated Energy Storage for Low Carbon Power Networks” (CO-STORE) a research project financed by the University of Malta through the Transdisciplinary Research and Knowledge Exchange Complex (TRAKE), in which the Department of Industrial Electrical Power Conversion is the lead partner. The selected applicant will develop co-ordinated control and energy storage system optimisation strategies for future network scenarios with elevated penetration of electrified transport and renewable energy sources. The developed strategies will be experimentally tested on a laboratory-scale energy storage system test rig.
  • Applicants applying for the post must be in possession of a degree in one of the following areas: energy storage, electrical engineering, electrical power engineering, power electronics or related disciplines. Applicants in possesion of a PhD or with post-doc experience in one of the above-mentioned areas will be preferred. Prior competence in the use of real time network simulators will be considered an asset.

  • The post is for a period of 36 months for RSO I and II and 30 months for RSO III and IV and carries the following initial annual remuneration, depending on the experience of the candidate:
  • Research Support Officer I - €20,800 for candidates in possession of a first degree;

    Research Support Officer II - €24,960 for candidates in passion of a Master’s degree;

    Research Support Officer III - for candidates in possession of a PhD;

    Research Support Officer IV - €41,600 for candidates with relevant post-doc experience.
