We are looking for two senior lecturers in business administration with different specialisations within management and marketing for full-time permanent positions at Örebro University School of Business.

These positions are in the subject area of business administration with specialisations within management or marketing.


Background

Business administration at Örebro University School of Business has a long tradition of education and research. As a senior lecturer here, you will be part of a research-oriented environment with a high proportion of externally funded projects on, for example, business models, business networks, transition processes, sustainability and organisational control. We offer BSc and MSc programmes in business administration, an MSc in Business and Economics, as well as an MSc in Industrial and Management Engineering.

These openings are part of a long-term capacity-building investment into teaching and research at the division.


Duties and responsibilities

At Örebro University, a senior lecturer is expected to spend their working hours on teaching at all levels, research, and any associated public engagement activities. In addition to education, research and collaboration, duties and responsibilities include development work, administration and continuing professional development. Moreover, teaching encompasses supervision, examination, course development, planning and evaluation.

As a senior lecturer in business administration, you will teach on our programmes in industrial and management engineering and business administration, as well as on freestanding courses. Your teaching duties will primarily involve courses within the field of marketing and/or organisation at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. Your duties may, however, also include teaching scientific methods, as well as teaching and supervision in business administration areas beyond your main specialization.


Qualifications

Those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer are applicants who have demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a doctoral degree in a subject matter relevant for the position, or have the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the position and the duties that it involves.

A general eligibility criterion for teaching staff at Örebro University is that they have completed courses on teaching and learning in higher education corresponding to at least 10 weeks. Knowledge and skills equivalent to such courses may also be assessed to establish whether these provide eligibility. A teacher who at the time of appointment lacks such training or the equivalent competence, must complete the required courses no later than within two years of taking up the position.


Assessment criteria

When hiring senior lecturers, both the applicant’s research expertise and their teaching expertise will be assessed, and they are to be given equal attention. The assessment is also to consider the applicant’s qualifications and experience from collaboration with the wider community, of which the university is a part, as well as national and international experience and mobility. Teachers are to have the ability to communicate and disseminate information; collaborate and engage with the wider community; and facilitate utilisation of the university’s research. In addition, the applicant’s suitability for the position will be assessed. Suitability refers to the applicant demonstrating the personal qualities required to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities at hand; to be able to cooperate with other members of staff; and to contribute to the development of university operations.

Research expertise

Research expertise is to be demonstrated through independent research contributions and continued scientific publishing following the award of the doctoral degree. More specifically, this autonomy is demonstrated through documented experience of conducting and publishing research without the previous supervisors (principal or assistant) as co-authors. Autonomy can also be demonstrated through sole authored publications and/or through publications with various constellations of co-authors.

Importance shall also be attached to the candidate’s establishment in the research community as well as to their experience of planning, administrating, and leading their own research. In addition to publications in well-established journals, establishment in the research community is also demonstrated through active contributions at seminars and conferences, in international research networks, and as a reviewer.

Particular attention is paid to the ability to contribute, research-wise, to future development and collaborations. Here, documented research activity within at least two (2) of the following seven (7) areas are particular advantage: business strategy; entrepreneurship, innovation and new business models; sustainability and utilization of scarce resource; industrial marketing and inter-organizational relationships; supply chain management; change management; organisational behaviours/routines.

Particular attention will also be paid to current research and to independent research activities in the past five years, as well as to the ability to independently initiate, conduct, and secure external funding for research within the fields mentioned above.

Teaching expertise

When defining teaching expertise at Örebro University, three categories are used: teaching approach, how the teaching approach is put into practice, and professional development as a teacher. The applicant’s teaching qualifications are therefore to be documented in compliance with Örebro University’s template for teaching portfolios, relating clearly to the values set out in Örebro University’s educational philosophy.

Teaching expertise is to be demonstrated through varying degrees of contributions within teaching, such as planning, execution, evaluation and follow up of teaching activities, as well as supervision and examination. The applicant must be able to account for their teaching outlook and approach and have the ability to reflect on their own pedagogical development as well as on the teacher’s role. The applicant is also expected to have made contributions to educational development, alternatively have the ambition to do so.

Particular attention will be paid to the applicant’s ability within and experience of teaching and examination on a wider range of topics within business administration and/or industrial management engineering. Documented experience of and interest in scientific methods and/or the teaching of methodology is also an advantage.

Other assessment criteria

The appointment as a senior lecturer requires an ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in Swedish and English. Candidates who do not fulfil this language requirement are expected to acquire the ability to understand spoken and written Swedish within two years of taking up the position.

Great attention is paid to personal qualities such as loyalty and power of initiative, as well as the ability to cooperate and take responsibility. We are looking for a team player who is loyal to their duties and co-workers and who does not shy away from taking on responsibilities and taking initiatives that develop our operations.

This is a permanent full-time position based at Örebro University’s main campus in Örebro. At Örebro University, salary depends on the senior lecturer’s qualifications and experience, and positions announced are, where appropriate, subject to a trial period.
