About the Department
 

The University of Chicago is a private institution encompassing the undergraduate College, six professional schools (Business, Law, Divinity, Public Policy, Medicine and Social Service Administration), four graduate divisions (Biological Sciences, Humanities, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences) and the University of Chicago Medical Center. The broader University enterprise includes Argonne National Laboratory, Fermilab, and Yerkes Observatory. The Biological Sciences Division (BSD) and the University of Chicago Medical Center (UCM) are managed by a single Dean/Executive Vice President and comprises the largest unit of the University and has an annual operating budget of $900M. The Medical Center oversees the finances and operations of all inpatient and ambulatory services. Physicians who provide patient care services are all appointed in one of the 13 clinical Departments within the BSD. The BSD includes the Pritzker School of Medicine, approximately 24 academic units, degree granting committees, and research centers and institutes. The BSD houses approximately 2,200 staff employees and approximately 800 academic appointees as well as 1,000 professional and graduate students.


Job Summary
 

The job performs a broad range of operational business activities to design, implement, and monitor a variety of human resource programs. Responsibilities are within the Human Resources Function as a generalist or in a combination of disciplines, allowing the incumbent to acquire higher-level skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the staffing process by creating and updating job descriptions, posting positions, reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, closing requisitions, interviewing applicants, and maintaining hiring documentation.

  • Initiate, complete and submit end-to-end processing of new hires, including all onboarding paperwork, orientation, training, and completed personnel files.

  • Support HR Business Partners with ongoing training initiatives, compliance matters, feedback, engagement initiatives and ongoing communication designed to add organizational value.

  • Develop and maintain metrics, benchmarks and ad hoc reports applying analysis to proactively solve problems and turn ideas into action.

  • Manage HRIS data management activities, including Workday and FAS transactions ensuring data integrity and compliance.

  • Adhere to and advise others on personnel policies and procedures.

  • Supports staff hiring processes, including developing job descriptions, interviewing and reference checking, handling employment offers, and conducting orientation. Maintains appropriate human resources data and records.

  • May help counsel employees on benefits and compensation. Coordinates with managers and senior colleagues to determine employee compensation.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Experience:

  • Experience with, or knowledge of, employment law
  • Experience with core HR processes including talent acquisition, retention, development or engagement
  • Demonstrated experience delivering high quality HR services
  • Experience using and applying data and analytics to diagnose problems using strategic thinking skills to design and implement appropriate solutions
  • Strong facilitation, influencing and conflict resolution skills
  • MS Office experience
  • Workday HRIS experience
  • Social Recruiting experience
