Position Summary:


Founded in 1965, the Henry Samueli School of Engineering educates more than 4,600 students (3,728 undergraduates and 961 graduates) with an integrative approach that blends fundamentals, research and hands-on experience. The School’s aim is to unleash innovation, create opportunities and inspire ingenuity. The Samueli School’s faculty members are leaders in their disciplines who have achieved worldwide recognition for their research and dedicated teaching. The School includes six academic departments: Biomedical Engineering; Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering; Civil and Environmental Engineering; Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; Materials Science and Engineering; and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Under the leadership of Dean Michael Green (Interim), the School pursues research that is timely, socially responsible and cutting edge, and works in partnership with industry and state and federal agencies to promote the transfer of research to applications that benefit society. Current research thrusts include Communications and Information Technology, Energy and Sustainability, Human Health, and Advanced Manufacturing and Materials. The Facilities unit supports the needs of the School through the facilities management of assigned space in 12 buildings consisting of approximately 400,000 square feet, which includes buildings shared with other Schools on Campus. The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is one of the largest academic departments in the Samueli School of Engineering at UCI. Staff are responsible for administrative duties associated with a fluctuating population of approximate 200 employees. This includes our largest faculty population of 30 faculty, 30 non-senate academics, 8 career staff, 200 graduate students and 1300 undergraduate students. The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering provides a vibrant intellectual environment for our students, along with technologically advanced laboratories in a wide range of subjects, including biomedical engineering, design and manufacturing, control and robotics, energy and the environment, fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, propulsion, structures, nanomaterials and microsystems. Our faculty members are scholars and leaders in their disciplines, and have achieved worldwide recognition and honors for their creative and pioneering contributions, and their dedicated teaching.


The incumbent is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Teaching Laboratories including equipment repair, set-up for experiments, construction and alterations to laboratory space. Operates as the Equipment Coordinator which includes responsibility for the management, maintenance, repair, and relocation of department equipment. Responsible for the construction and repair of equipment used in research laboratories, and for the arrangement and configuration of computer systems used in laboratory teaching and research.


Compensation Range:


Hourly: $33.64

A. Ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks. B. Experience with measurement techniques (thermocouples, flowmeters, dynamometers, strain gauges, accelerometers, pressure, transducers and similar equipment). C. Experience with basic hand tools and power tools. D. Knowledge of safety procedures, handling gasoline for experiments, CO2 badges and other laboratory safety issues. E. Experience with electronic troubleshooting procedures. F. Experience with laboratory computer system set-up, configuration and maintenance. G. Experience with data acquisition and control hardware and software (such as LabView C++) H. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, computer networking and web posting. I. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain proper relationships, and to interact successfully within the University environment. J. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse student, faculty, staff and other campus populations.




Working knowledge and application of basic scientific and engineering principles and basic matchining skills.
