Summary of Position

Plymouth State University seeks a Manager of Building Services-Physical Plant to join the Physical Plant leadership team. Primary functions are to manage all aspects of routine and non-routine custodial operations at Plymouth State inclusive of the supervision and leadership of approximately 35 full time staff and contracted individuals, inspection and evaluation of campus facilities to insure high standards of cleanliness, sanitation and safety are consistently maintained and meet established industry standards and governmental regulations, planning and developing long and short range departmental programs to insure evolution and improvements in services and frequencies, supervising Plymouth State’s waste & recycling program, coordinate and meet with various campus customers, scheduling of events, purchasing of supplies and the indirect management of department budget(s) and spending.

Other minimum qualifications
  • Associate’s degree and five years of related custodial experience including at least two years in a supervisory capacity or high school graduation and seven years of custodial experience with two years supervisory.
  • Proficient in the use of Windows based office software including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Supervisory skills with ability to manage personnel with special needs.
  • Well developed communications and human relations skills.
  • Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of the job, including heavy work.
  • Ability to wear and use personal protective equipment if required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a college/university setting.
  • Experience training employees.
  • Experience with budget development and tracking.
  • ISSA CIMS or GCI Certification
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  • Strong organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Thrives in ambiguity
  • Exhibit initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art cleaning materials, equipment, methods and practices.
