The Department of Medicine (Division of Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases) at the Keck School of Medicine, located in the Health Science Campus is seeking a Research Associate to join the laboratory of Dr. Lily Dara focused on Liver Disease Research in the Hoffman Medical Research Building. The Dara lab studies molecular mechanisms of necrosis, signaling pathways in cell death, acute liver injury from drugs (hepatotoxicity) and autoimmune liver diseases.

The Research Associate's main responsibilities will be to plan, design and conduct research projects in consultation with the Principal Investigator; stay abreast of the literature in the field; develop new methods as needed using published methodology; genotype and work with transgenic mice; analyze experimental data; prepare publication-quality tables, graphs, presentations and illustrations; preparation of research abstracts and papers.

Candidates will need a background in standard molecular biology techniques and some experience working with mice. Expertise in cell culture, transfection, siRNA/shRNA, overexpression/knockdown,  cloning, immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting, confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry, isolation of primary cells, in vivo studies on mice, and small animal surgery is required. Must be able to handle and work with transgenic mice colonies.

Other duties may include:

  • Handle and dispose of hazardous and nonhazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols. Set-up and operate standard laboratory equipment. Prepare animal safety protocols if necessary (IACUC).
  • Monitor inventory levels and orders or secure supplies as needed.
  • Learn basic laboratory safety and, if appropriate, basic radiation and blood borne pathogen safety under the direction of the USC Environmental Health & Safety office. Ensure lab compliance with environmental health and safety protocols.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
