The laboratory of Dr. Jianming Xie at the Department of Pharmacology & Pharmaceutical Sciences, USC School of Pharmacy, is seeking a highly motivated researcher to join his team as a research assistant. The Xie lab focuses on genetic engineering of T cells and NK cells with novel chimeric antigen receptors (CAR) to target cancer and HIV. We use a multi-disciplinary approach to achieve this goal, including protein chemistry, cellular engineering, biophysics, immunology, and mouse models.

The research assistant will work closely with senior lab members, performing biochemical, cellular, and/or mouse experiments to develop and validate novel CAR-T and CAR-NK cells.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepares solutions, reagents, and media for experimental use.
  • Performs a variety of experiments (e.g., molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, lentiviral transduction, flow cytometry, ELISA, xenograft mouse models) independently or under the supervision of senior lab members.
  • Maintains accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments.
  • Maintains and organizes laboratory supplies.
  • Handles and disposes of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in mammalian cell culture, ELISA, flow cytometry, and/or mouse studies.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in molecular and cell biology, immunology, bioengineering, pharmaceutical sciences, chemical biology, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to understand and perform protocols with high degree of consistency.
  • Strong organizational skills and multi-task abilities.

Minimum Education: Associate's degree, Specialized/technical training, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 2 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols.
