Student Services Advisor II

The University of Southern California’s Iovine and Young Academy is seeking a Student Services Advisor II to join its team. This position will provide a range of services to support both undergraduate and graduate student populations and provide mid-tier leadership for the academic advising team.


Principal duties include:

  • Reporting to the associate dean for admission and student affairs, provides mid-tier leadership and guidance to other student services advisors who perform similar work.

  • Sets priorities and timelines and monitors delivery of student advising services.

  • Provides academic advising for students on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, and graduation counseling and clearance. May include some early-stage career advising as regards opportunities and programs at the Iovine and Young Academy and USC.

  • Assists in the planning and execution of the recruitment and admission initiatives of the Iovine and Young Academy undergraduate and graduate programs.

  • Serves as a resource for prospective students and families on admission, financial aid, housing, academic requirements, and sample career outcomes for IYA graduates.

  • Maintains currency on policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to admission, financial aid, registration, transfer credit evaluation, course and degree requirements, petitions, and other student services.

  • Evaluates student problems (academic, administrative, personal) and refer students to appropriate student resources or university offices for additional counseling. Liaises with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution.

  • Carefully maintains student records and regularly compiles statistical data for the strategic and informational needs of the school and the university. Prepares reports for internal and external use.

  • Assists in planning and coordination of student programs, including new student orientation, commencement, and residential programs.

  • Participates in committees at the department, school, college, or university level as assigned by the associate dean for admission and student affairs or the dean.

  • Gathers financial data and assists in budget development.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Collect, format, analyze, visualize, and present relevant student data.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with undergraduate and graduate degree programs and student services in the context of a comprehensive college or university. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Candidates must have the ability to work successfully within a team of staff and faculty members. Occasional evening and weekend work, and travel is required. 


  • Master’s degree

  • 5 years of directly related experience in student services and demonstrated ability to lead a team.

  • Understanding of higher education operations and a familiarity with relevant computer applications, including Excel, PowerPoint or Keynote, etc.

  • Knowledge of an array of student and academic programs, policies and procedures, and knowledge of student information platforms and systems (such as SIS).
