About the Department

The Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) is a business and technology extension program of the UNC System. It is a designated Multi-Campus Center with 16 offices across the state, administered statewide by NC State University. The SBTDC’s mission is to positively impact North Carolina’s economy by helping to grow small and midsize businesses and launch promising startups. The SBTDC is a primary contributing partner in North Carolina’s overall economic development infrastructure and the effective bridge between the state’s small businesses and the UNC System. SBTDC client businesses consistently achieve their objectives, outgrow and outperform their peers.

Essential Job Duties

The Web Manager is responsible for web development and management, event registration, developing and monitoring Guidebook applications, creating and distributing e-newsletters, and email marketing for events for the SBTDC statewide.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing, managing and troubleshooting multiple public websites utilizing both WordPress and HTML. These include the SBTDC’s main site, regional center pages, branded event pages, and specialty/partner sites (e.g. hurricane recovery websites).
  • Reviewing and analyzing website activity using Google Analytics.
  • Creating and distributing weekly/quarterly/special edition e-newsletters to SBTDC staff, clients, and advisory board members.
  • Updating and creating e-mail marketing content and distributing to listservs (maintaining listservs as needed).
  • Training and assisting web content managers across the state; developing documentation on standard processes and collaborating with new users to make improvements to website content and usability.
  • Setting up online registrations for SBTDC events using Cvent/CashNet.
  • Communicating new fee-based events, subscriptions and licenses to the SBTDC’s Budget/Operations team.
  • Developing applications for large events using Guidebook (or other apps) and monitoring analytics to identify which modules are more frequently used.
  • Provide miscellaneous technical, publications, and graphics support.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Other Responsibilities

Minimum Education and Experience

Master’s degree; or Bachelor’s degree with zero – two years’ of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Technical knowledge and technical solution development relating to web design/development, HTML, CSS, WordPress, Google Analytics and Guidebook.
  • Previous web management experience, preferably with WordPress and HTML as the web software/language.
  • Technical support and customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills/ability to work in partnership with internal customers across the state and interact effectively with a wide variety of positions.
  • Ability to plan and organize efficiently to manage multiple responsibilities/priorities.
  • Publication experience and previous design/layout experience in both print and electronic formats is highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in web design, web management, graphic design or similarly related field.
  • 2-3 years of web management experience.
  • Webmaster certification
