Summary of Duties:

The web coordinator for University Marketing and Communications (UMC) oversees the coordination of the publishing and maintenance of all of Washington State University’s centrally hosted WordPress websites. This position partners with website editors and content contributors to provide technical guidance and counsel to internal clients, implement solutions, troubleshoot issues and provide training. The web coordinator coordinates and manages web requests from across the university, including answering customer support tickets and/or assigning them to appropriate team members to ensure they are resolved in a timely manner.

The web coordinator manages web accessibility for all centrally hosted websites. This includes implementing accessibility tools and applying best practices to support compliance. The web coordinator also consults and trains content owners and other technical staff on accessibility best practices. In addition, this position provides outreach, training and documentation to website editors and content contributors, ensures open forums and continuous communications are impactful and accessible to the WSU web community and leads weekly open labs available to all web coordinators and content owners across the WSU system.  

The web coordinator is a problem solver, a team player and demonstrates a commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace environment. This position supervises two student employees.


The web coordinator reports to WSU’s web development director.


Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in information science or related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in web site design, development and maintenance. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, information technology, business administration, communications, public relations or related field.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in web visual design, typography, navigation, and/or information architecture and usability.

  • Demonstrated experience working with clients to resolve technical issues.

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and other graphic design technologies.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in building WordPress based websites.

  • Experience developing training documentation and resources.

  • Experience developing and leading workshops and other group training formats.

  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising or leading others.

  • Experience with social media integrations.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with web development languages including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing short and long-term projects.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing interactive features and design elements, slide shows, video, audio, RSS feeds, or other multimedia technologies.

  • Demonstrated experience meeting web accessibility standards.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with current publishing design technologies.

Additional Information:

Monthly Salary: Commensurate with qualification and experience.
