Job Description

IREC, in Barcelona, Spain, is interested in receiving Expressions of Interest of potential candidates for the Tecniospring Industry 2021 call (ACCIO, Generalitat de Catalunya).

The Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) is a publicly funded institution created in 2009 based in Barcelona and Tarragona that conducts innovative research and innovation over a wide range of disciplines within the science and technology energy field. IREC contributes to sustainable development via development of new technological solutions, promotion of scientific and technological know-how related to clean energy and its efficient use as well transfer of solution and expertise to market actors. Activities include regional, national and international projects as well as direct cooperation with leading industrial partners. The institute also supports the promotion of renewable energy technologies and assists political decision-makers. IREC belongs to the CERCA and TECNIO networks of research and technologic centres of the Generalitat of Catalunya as well as EERA Joint Programmes on Smart Grids and Smart Cities to name a few. IREC has participated in more than 60 projects, with a portfolio of more than 7M€.

The Energy Storage and Energy Harvesting group, part or the Advanced Materials for Energy area, led by Prof. Joan Ramon Morante has a strong background and expertise on: electrode material synthesis and processing; battery and reactor implementations; (photo)electrochemical, catalyst and electronic skills as well as large capacity for advanced characterization, laboratory and field testing; performance system assessments and system integration according the application covering batteries and chemical energy storage.

We’re looking for potential candidates in the following areas:

  • Thermal- and electro-catalysis
  • Waste-to-energy processes
  • Carbon capture, utilisation and storage
  • Catalysts and reactor design. Methanation. Power to X
  • Electrochemical energy storage
  • Lithium ion batteries, solid state batteries, high energy density batteries, metal-air batteries, hybrid batteries, advanced flow redox batteries

Qualifications and experience required:

  • PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry or related field
  • Team Worker

  • Analytical and synthesis capabilities

Benefits

The annual budget includes funding for salary plus research expenses. The salary will be in accordance with the Tecniospring Industry call.

Fellows will be based at the IREC headquarters in Barcelona.

Elegibility criteria:

According to the Tecniospring Industry 2021 call, the fellows must:

  • Hold a PhD plus 2 years of additional postdoctoral full time research experience (or at least 6 years of full time research experience).
  • Mobility rule:
    • TS Incoming: Not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the last three years.
    • TS Outgoing: Not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the last three years.
