Mechanical Engineering Post Master Student

What You Will Do

The selected applicants will use their knowledge of mechanical engineering principles to solve problems and execute an interesting, diverse and complex array of projects to meet the needs of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and our external customers. Applicants will be expected to have earned their Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related field) within the past three years.

Successful applicants will perform the following duties in this position:

  • Participate as a team member, on component or sub-system hardware design and/or testing

  • Author engineering documents such as test plans, test procedures, test reports and engineering requirements

  • Solve straightforward mechanical engineering problems in support of hardware design and/or testing : o Design test hardware, fixturing and tooling o Complete engineering analysis for test hardware design and test planning o Determine and implement instrumentation and data acquisition solutions o Complete uncertainty analyses

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of CAD modeling and drawing creation

  • Basic understanding of the scientific method and how to utilize it for mechanical hardware testing

  • Basic understanding of mechanical engineering design principles

  • Successful experience working in an integrated team environment

  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

Education/Experience : Position requires a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related field) from an ABET accredited institution within the last three years.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience using SolidWorks or Creo

  • Experience using ANSYS or Abaqus

  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) of mechanical hardware

  • Formal project management training

  • System and subsystem qualification testing or analysis experience

  • Active DOE or DOD security clearance

Additional Details

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements
